FAQ's - Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
What
kind of speaker are you? and What do you speak about? are the most
frequently asked questions
A: I call myself an inspirational
speaker. You can call me a 'motivational' speaker, but inspirational
is more appropriate. I think "Helping ordinary people live
extraordinary lives" tells my story. Jump Start Sales Training and
Speaking of Speaking may not be considered 'inspiring' but I know sales and
speaking so why not speak about selling and speak about speaking?
Q:
Are
your presentations 'clean?'
A:
Yes. All my material is clean.
If my presentations were movies they would be PG or PG-13. At one time
I had a presentation of classic radio bloopers that was funny but definitely R rated. The last time I did that presentation I could tell
that some people in the audience were uncomfortable and I decided to not
offer that presentation any more.
Q: How
long have you been speaking professionally?
A: My first paid presentation was in
1995.
Q:
What
is the difference between a 'keynote' and a 'workshop?'
A: A 'keynote' presentation is basically
a traditional speech. I use the term 'keynote' to differentiate a
'speech' from a 'workshop.' A keynote speech doesn't have to be
limited to the traditional, formal 'after dinner' speech. Interaction
during the presentation is usually limited but can include Q & A or
discussion afterward. This type of presentation is typically abut 30
to 60 minutes in length.
A 'workshop' or seminar, is a training session that is much more
informal. It is typically over an hour and may be
several hours in length. There is usually quite a bit of participation
by those attending.
Q:
How
much do you charge?
A: My fee is $1000, plus expenses.
Unless other arrangements are made, I get 50% down to hold the date and the
remainder on the day of the event. Some organizations prefer to write
one check that includes reasonable expenses, which is fine. If you can
purchase airfare and other accommodations at a better rate you are welcome
to do so. If I will be submitting receipts for reimbursement I
promise to be judicious and conservative. I will reduce my fee for
small nonprofit organizations.
Q:
What
if we have to cancel?
A: If you change your mind I get to keep
your deposit. If I have to cancel I'll return your deposit.
Neither of those have ever happened. In the event of weather delays,
illness or 'acts of God,' we will reschedule the engagement to a mutually
agreeable time.
Q:
Do you
have a contract?
A: Yes. The contract is simple and
straight-forward. Basically, it puts on paper the details of the
previous two questions. Having the details in writing eliminates
miscommunication.
Q:
Do you
have a video?
A: Yes. There are four video
segments on the website.
